Dr. Aarni Tuomi works as Senior Lecturer in Experience Economy at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Helsinki, Finland. Aarni Tuomi obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Surrey, UK. He is an experienced service designer, manager, and researcher, having worked with diverse stakeholders and carried out several collaborative research projects e.g. in the UK, US, Spain, China, Japan and Finland. For the academic year 2023/24 he is a Visiting Fellow at Wakayama University, Japan.
Aarni Tuomi is particularly interested in using emerging technologies to improve and increase human capabilities in service business contexts. His research has explored e.g. digital labour platforms, service robotics, artificial intelligence, UX design, service innovation, immersive technologies (XR, AR, VR) and food technology, e.g. cellular agriculture and ghost kitchens. His work is regularly featured in industry trade magazines and his research has been published in top academic journals, e.g. Annals of Tourism Research, Psychology & Marketing, Cornell Hospitality Quarterly. He sits at the Editorial Board of two academic journals: Journal of Tourism Futures and Robonomics: Journal of the Automated Economy, and is currently acting as Research Track Co-Chair for the ENTER2025 e-Tourism Conference.
